Luton Airport guide

London Luton Airport (LTN) is the fifth-largest airport in the UK. It serves routes all over Europe, including domestic flights, but many airlines operating from LTN also travel to destinations in Asia, Africa and North America.

Location of Luton Airport

Luton Airport is 32 miles (51.5 kilometres) northwest of Central London.

There are trains from all over Central London to Luton Parkway Station; from there, a shuttle bus takes you straight to the airport. Plenty of buses also run to Luton from Central London and further afield.

Due to its proximity to the M1, M40, M25 and A1, it is generally straightforward to drive to LTN from anywhere in the country. There are lots of convenient airport parking options to choose from, but you should be aware that the airport charges drop-off fees.

Which terminal?

Luton Airport has one terminal, which makes finding your departure gate nice and easy. With more than 20 airlines operating out of Luton, you can reach destinations all over Europe and North Africa and there are even low-cost flights available from Luton to the USA. The airport is most popular for short-haul flights with operators like easyJet and Ryanair.

How to get to Luton Airport

Car

You can find your way to Luton Airport via sat nav using the postcode LU2 9QT. It is close to the M1 and M25, which makes it easy to access wherever you are in the UK.

If you are travelling to the airport via the M1 from London, exit the motorway at Junction 10 and follow the signs for your car park. We advise making a note of your chosen car park to avoid confusion.

If you're coming from the east and the A1 motorway, get onto the dual carriageway on the A505, go through Hitchin and follow the road signs. If you’re travelling from the north, get onto the M1 (South) and follow it straight down to Luton, following signs for the airport as you approach.

Train

There’s no direct train line to Luton Airport. However, there are plenty of trains to and from the purpose-built Luton Parkway Station in nearby Dunstable. A train journey from St Pancras in Central London takes just over half an hour and, from there, a shuttle bus takes you to the airport in 10 minutes, traffic permitting.

Bus and coach

A bus journey from Victoria Station in London to Luton Airport takes approximately 90 minutes. Buses run every 20-40 minutes and there are plenty of cheap fares to choose from.

Useful tips

Avoid drop-off fees

You may incur heavy charges for dropping off your passengers in the wrong areas. This is especially true of the approach lanes and roundabout on New Airport Way, so be sure to identify your drop-off point before you set off to the airport.

Book everything early and make notes

Book your flight, parking and your hotel in advance and you can make significant savings thanks to a host of ‘early-bird’ special offers at Luton Airport. Always make a note of your car park zone to save time and reduce the chances of having to hunt for your vehicle upon your return.

Set off with plenty of time to spare

The departure gates at LTN shut 40 minutes before take-off, so you need to make sure you get there in good time. The same principle applies if you’re travelling by bus or train. Avoid unexpected delays by getting to LTN at least two and a half hours before your flight if you are travelling during rush hour.

Buy parking and hotel in one

Booking your parking space and hotel in one package can save you money. It can even sometimes work out cheaper than just buying a parking space alone. View our parking and hotel packages to save up to 60%.

Check the rules for the relevant airline

Different airlines have separate rules for what you can carry onboard your plane, so always check the fine print before you pack your bags.
